EL ROI [EL-ROH- EE] “ GOD OF SEEING “ GENESIS 16: 13
by Nick Laninga
Several years ago, in the month of December, a voice piped up from the back of the school bus I was driving:
“My brother is being bothered by Susan” [ name changed]
Observing in my mirror, her actions were indeed inappropriate. I spoke over my intercom, knowing she came from a “Christian” home,
“Susan you know who is watching.”
A young voice in the middle of the bus chimed in “Santa Claus” Everyone laughed but a point was made.
Whoa!! we need to back up at this thought of how does God sees us. How do we as Christians, knowing that God “sees” everything we do, view God? Does He look at us through a keyhole, as it were, daring us to do something wrong. No! His seeing is so much more than that. Psalm 103: 10-12 “ He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are high above the earth. So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far is the east from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. What a comfort is brought to us by Scripture.
Read the story of Hagar & Ismael in Gen 16: 1-16. This is where this name of God comes from, where God come to Hagar in her distress.
Vr.13 Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her. You-Are- the-God- who-sees: for she said.
”Have I also seen Him who sees me ?”
This is what God’s “seeing” means. See how much more God’s seeing is.
Nathan Niles says it so well in “PRECIOUS PROMISE GOD HAS GIVEN”
To the weary passer by on the way from earth to heaven, “ I WILL GUIDE YOU WITH MY EYE” Grace that sees You all the way Home.
AND THOSE WHO KNOW YOUR NAME WILL PUT THEIR TRUST IN YOU; FOR YOU, LORD, HAVE NOT FORSAKEN THOSE WHO SEEK YOU.
Blessings, the Laninga’s.
