THE NAME OF THE LORD IS A STRONG TOWER
by Nick and Diana Laninga
“Dad, Dad” shouted Nico as he knocked on our Hotel room in Chengdu China. “ You won’t believe what just happened, a plane just collided with the World Trade Tower in New York. We turned on our T.V. just as the second plane hit the other tower. Many vividly remember that day in history as 9-11 [ September 11, 2001.]
We were in China to support our family in the adoption process of our new Chinese granddaughter. It was here that the Lord spoke to us through His word bringing us renewed assurance of His presence in this foreign place. It has been our daily practice to do our devotions from Ligonier Ministries TableTalk. September 11th was no different. The Devotion for September was the book of Judges and the lesson for THAT DAY was Judges 9, where men entered the stronghold of the tower of Shechem of the god of Berith. Abimelech and those with him cut down boughs from the trees and set the tower on fire and all the people who took refuge in that tower perished.
Other scripture we were given to study THAT DAY was Proverbs 18:10: The NAME OF THE LORD IS A STRONG TOWER AND THE RIGHTEOUS RUN TO IT AND ARE SAFE.
This text was such a comfort as we shared it with all those who traveled with us, many who were fearful of getting on an airplane. God speaks to us through His Word. LISTEN
As we study and focus on the names of God let us do so with the reward of the words from Psalm 9:9-10.
THE LORD ALSO WILL BE A REFUGE FOR THE OPPRESSED, A REFUGE IN THE TIMES OF TROUBLE, AND THOSE WHO KNOW YOUR NAME WILL PUT THEIR TRUST IN YOU; FOR YOU ,LORD, HAVE NOT FORSAKEN THOSE WHO SEEK YOU.
Our first Sunday back at church the attached song was sung.
Blessings from Nick & Diana Laninga.
