Advent 2015: Jesus as Omega

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
Revelation 22:16

Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek Alphabet. Omega is the last. It is like the letter Z is to us. And if you happen to be one of those unfortunate people whose name starts with the letter Z, you should know by experience that you ended up last…..a lot. Not that l don’t like names that start with the letter Z, but l personally don’t like being last. (And you probably didn’t or don’t like it either.)

Christ is Omega, He is the End. He knows when the End will be. He is the End of every day we live through. He knows what the End of next week will be like. He will be the End of everything you do, because Christ is always there. So you don’t have to worry about what you are going to have for dinner tomorrow or how you are ever going to find the money to buy a present for your grandmother. Christ is always going to be the Last, the End, the Omega of whatever you do.

Christ will also be the end of all time. The End of the World will be terrifying. There will be a man that will be very powerful. These will be the last days. But, Omega….Christ will come and defeat this cruel man with one word. He will destroy him completely, and the sheep of His fold will be saved. He will take us to heaven to be with Him. And Christ, the Omega, will be with us through eternity. We will get to join Him in His end. We will not have to be frightened anymore.

“Of the Fathers love begotten,
Ere the worlds began to be,
He is Alpha and Omega,
He the Source, the Ending He,
Of the things that are, that have been,
And that future years shall see,
Evermore and evermore!”
