“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
One of my favorite songs that we would often sing at the camp I’ve worked at the past two summers lists various names of Jesus: rock, fortress, lily of the valley, bright Morning Star. But I have to admit, until I looked it up, I didn’t know exactly what He meant in the last chapter of the last book of the Bible by referring to Himself as the “bright morning star”.
A Morning Star is a planet like Venus or a particularly bright star visible shortly before sunrise. The Morning Star is a symbol of hope; a sign of darkness ending in the last chapter, and a new light coming.
Christ is our morning star. He is a symbol of hope in the darkest times, a sign of better things to come.
