Jesus answered ‘I AM the Way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John, in his gospel, doesn’t mince words in telling us who Jesus is–the Word and God Himself come to dwell among us:
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Why does the world resist this Jesus? Why do we persist in traveling every other way than His Way? Why do we seek every truth other than His Truth? Why do the created not recognize and receive the Creator in His truth and glory?
The Way is laid straight in a wilderness of options, standing wide and clear in a desert of deep pits and impossibly winding paths.
It leads us straight to the humble manger where we too are wrapped, swaddled, and comforted.
It leads us straight to the cross where we are bought at a terrible price.
It leads us to light and life, to the grace and truth of the Word.
There can be no other Way for the children of God.
No, not one.
