Shouting for Joy

Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
Then will the lame leap like a deer,
and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Isaiah 35:5-6

The miracle of the healings of Christ are documented for those of us who were not there to witness them.  A touch of saliva to eyes and tongue, fingers placed in ears, words that gave new life to paralyzed limbs.   Physicians today know the power of spoken words, or the comforting touch.  But there is nothing they can do with those simple means that can reverse the irreversible.  Of course many medical “miracles” happen every day in the 21st century,  but it takes far more than spit and words of the 1st century to make them happen.   Far far more.

These ancient miracles took place when an open heart met divine mercy head on.   No surgery required, no expensive medications, no magnetic imaging.   In comparison to the skills of the ultimate Physician, modern day healers are humbled by their obvious limitations.  They are blind, deaf, dumb and lame, completely immobilized until they themselves undergo a open heart procedure.

Only then are they unstoppable, as they leap and shout for joy alongside their patients who are healed.
